A Place to Elevate NYC Youth Soccer
Metropolitan Oval
We worked with the Met Oval team to design a training center where players develop their skills and have a great time playing the game.
LOCATION: Queens
CLIENT: Metropolitan Oval Foundation Inc.
OVERVIEW: Training Center and Sports Fields
SERVICES: Architecture, Interior Architecture
The inclusion of agility training areas as well as classrooms indicates a strong focus on player development which is critical for young athletes.
The program includes locker rooms, classrooms, and agility training areas with gymnastic floor and exercise including stationary bikes, elliptical machines, treadmills and a free weights rack. It’s not what anyone wants but injuries do happen so we were sure to include a medical center recovery room with hot and cold tubs and medical tables.
Behind every player is another kind of team - a support crew and we’re designing for them too. The west facing orientation captures the Manhattan skyline creating the truly unique New York City experience for parents to enjoy a coffee and pastry at the cafe while watching their kids play with the iconic skyline as a backdrop. Nestled in a residential area the complex offers community residents a place to gather and take a break from the pressures of city life.
In a city wild about sports we count ourselves in! So naturally, we were thrilled to design a new 4,500 square foot athletic facility for the New York City based youth soccer league. Olé!
We’re not kidding. You’ll find us cheering at Madison Square Garden in the heart of Manhattan where the Knicks tear it up and the Rangers ice it down. Clapping at Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens for our hometown Grand Slam watching with bated breath. And, of course, at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx watching the Bronx Bombers and in the same space doing the wave while watching NYC Football Club play the beautiful game. The KBA team includes a founder who’s wild about Holland and Dutch culture and a South American with loyalties across borders. So yes, we have a soft spot for soccer!
