Dare to dream, dare to imagine. In Jersey City, we helped WorkSocial see their potential was bigger than the vision they had for the space.
WorkSocial asked us to solve the flow of the layout connecting the main office with other spaces. We doubled the size of the existing office and made it accessible to all.
WorkSocial is the premier place to find a coworking solution in Jersey City. It’s a melting pot of innovators ranging from solo freelancers to multinational corporations. Whether you’re looking for an open desk or a fully furnished private office, business gets done there.
We love designing spaces that allow connection. So of course we were thrilled to design the lobby that connected the spaces. We started as we always do - by asking questions to find out what the end users of the spaces needs are. What we heard included seating, power, and also privacy.
We incorporated seating around the main column in the lobby with flip out desks for laptop use and outlets to power devices. We designed deep seating nooks made of soft sound-absorbing fabrics, allowing privacy and comfort. Time is productivity and at WorkSocial, the work can start in the lobby while waiting.
Attractive phone booths and simple kitchenette designs celebrate the WorkSocial orange and gray branding. Cutting-edge tech, luxurious amenities, cool coffee bars, and sunlit spaces are optimal conditions for collaboration and business.

We collaborated with a Feng Shui advisor to optimize energy flow and balance. No dead end corridors or ‘‘arguing doors’” were among the learnings applied.
When people collaborate there’s conversation. When it’s going great there may be raised voices and maybe a cheer or two. In a coworking space, not everyone wants to hear it.
We took a deep dive into acoustics in office spaces. The solution was to use resilient channels and floor-to ceiling metal studs. By doing that the sound between the individual offices was minimized. We wanted to go one step further and also figured out that having ductwork in the ceiling would stop sounds from going from one office to the next. This allowed for 3 and 4 person offices as well as open office spaces without sounds colliding.
The North Atlantic trade winds inspired the geometric patterns found in the custom wallpapers we designed for the lobby and common spaces. An unparalleled history as the nation’s “Golden Door”, Jersey City is one of the nation’s most diverse cities. To honor that and the global aspect of the business conducted here, the conference rooms are named after international cities including Jakarta, London, and Rome. Gray and white street grid maps of these cities are aligned with WorkSocial ethos and branding.
“The team successfully incorporated suggestions and feedback into the design framework, demonstrating great attention to detail. They also took the time to research and provide solutions when faced with challenges. The testimonial emphasizes the excellent fit between KBA Architects and WorkSocial, leading to an ongoing partnership.”
