The building’s structure rises out of the bedrock to capture prime views of Midtown for the penthouse units, while the lower floor units are flooded with greenery and light from the adjacent Clinton Community Garden.
At KBA we are committed to lead with research for the best processes and materials. For our project on West 48th Street, we chose a beautiful Indiana limestone engineered to be lighter, tidier, and stronger than previously available options. The heat-reflecting light color combined with French windows make it a standout among the block’s neighbors, while echoing the aesthetic of Classic Manhattan.
The guardrails feature a custom-designed pattern crafted using state-of-the-art digital fabrication.
Each unit spans the entire floor, with private elevator entrances, gracious layouts, Juliet balconies, and outdoor spaces.
There are some things about a projects location that we cannot control - the built space around it and its geographic orientation. In this project we were thrilled to have a building front facing south and to be situated opposite a city park.
Clinton Community Garden is one of the earliest examples of urban agricultural reclamation. Created in 1979 it is a striking testament to the power of residential communities and is filled with trees and flowers.
With the proud history of beekeeping in the park across the street, we like to imagine owners could purchase this local unheated, unfiltered, and unprocessed honey for their tea sipped from their home across the street, or maybe join in on the fun themselves.
